Toyota Motor could overtake General Motors anytime

People at Toyota Motor Corp. are rejoicing the occasion and why not, Toyota is on its way to overtake General Motors – the world’s biggest automaker. The global production for Toyota Motor Corp. rose by 17.3% in August, a trend Toyota is maintaining since last 22 months.
What is the major cause for these continuous gains? Well, you guessed it right, it is none other then soaring oil prices what has proved a boon for Toyota as more and more drivers are turning to fuel-efficient cars which also includes Prius hybrid, Corolla compact and the midsize Camry, best-selling models in the U.S. for 8 of the last 9 years.
Toyota sold 622,471 vehicles in august. In these, overseas sales rose by 7 percent to 322,079 units, whereas domestic sales jumped 30.9 percent to 300,392 vehicles.
The next big number Toyota is eyeing at is global sales of 9.8 million vehicles in 2008. Well, figure seems bit high but not for a consistent company like Toyota.
Look at the GM sales for 2005 – 9.2 million units worldwide and production of 9.05 million vehicles. Any guesses, will the mighty fall…..?
