Updates on benefit of using hybrid cars

tax breaks hybrid carsFuel cost, fuel shortage and oil dependencies – If these are not enough to make you think of buying a hybrid car then look at this. There are more tax credits on its way which will motivate you further in owning one of the green cars.

The tax credit will benefit those who have purchased hybrid cars since the 1st of January and it will be near about $3400 which is quite higher then the previous credit which was $3150. This will not be sales tax break but a credit on the income tax forms.

Free Parking
Oh Yes! While many states are already counting on allowing free parking to hybrid cars, cities like Washington D.C., Chicago and San Antonio have already started giving green cars free parking.

This itself shows that Green Cars are welcome, and more importantly they are already in. Well, that also means that you can stop worrying about small change wherever you go.

Unlimited Access to Car pool lanes
Well some highly qualified hybrid cars are allowed to get a unlimited access to car pool lanes, even if you are single in the car. Now that is something we all dream, starting of late and yet reaching our office on time. With Hybrid Car your dream is no longer a dream.

Good cars, Hybrid Cars
Ultimately, the state and the Pollution departments are more concerned on how much is emitted from a car rather than the name HYBRID. A car like Ford Focus is safer than an old HYBRID car. So it is not just the tag of Hybrid, but how the car affects environment which is more important.

  1. Hybrid cars sound like a good idea and I don’t want to sound like a wet blanket but can anyone tell me the greenhouse costs of producing one verses how much they save?

They are basically a normal car with lots of extra equipment such as electric motors, large batteries, large cabling, regenerative braking systems, etc. all of which cost a hell of a lot in green house gasses to produce. Toyota claim that their hybrid can save up to one tonne of green house gasses per year so it would seem to me that you would have to own one for alot of years before it became greenhouse positive. And that’s only if you don’t have to replace any of these major components in that time.

Considering there are many small diesels out there that actually get similar or even better fuel economy (read greenhouse gasses) it seems to me that hybrid cars may just be a clever marketing ploy by the car companies who would be better off putting their research money into biofuels, or hydrogen etc.

Hope I’m wrong but what is the greenhouse cost per kilogram of machined alloy, moulded plastic, etc?
